S OPINION? Everybody Has One!!

GRAVETTE — Cows are bawling at every fence corner around the country. Hay is scarce and grass is about nonexistent. We had a good wet summer last year, grass grew good and we could not get a time to cut hay. Now the hay yards are partially empty and most of the men in the cattle business in the region have empty pockets. It is hard to borrow on cattle right now, even to feed them. Read More »

S An Anniversary Is A Perfect Time For Reminiscing

GRAVETTE — I felt honored when my sister Helen and her husband wanted to spend their 60th wedding anniversary with us. We took them out to the Red Lobster and had a nice few days together before they headed back to their home in Mississippi. Read More »

S Gravette Letter to the Editor-

Dear Editor, The answer is simple: the boys can’t come home until there are jobs that they can come home to. Our number one responsibility now is to get the U. S. back to work. Read More »

GRAVETTE — The weather cooled off again last week and we had a few cloudy, gloomy days. Even though temperatures are below normal the daffodils are providing an abundance of color and crocus are blooming in the yard up at the corner. The chilly wind has not discouraged our feathered friends as cheery bird song can be heard in early morning and several robins have been seen hopping around the yard. We are encouraged as the calendar tells us spring is just around the corner. Read More »

GRAVETTE — Only a week and a half until spring and boy, am I ready! We had some frosty mornings last week but temperatures warmed nicely by the weekend. Many of our daffodils are blooming now and hyacinths are coming up out beside the cellar. Our plow man has come, checked out the garden spot and promised to return when he thinks it is dry enough. We’ve been receiving a variety of garden catalogues. I passed one along to sister Nancy and her husband who are already ordering seeds and plants. Last week we received another one, gardens alive!, featuring many natural and organic products. Read More »

S OPINION? Everybody Has One!!

GRAVETTE — This is a good day to measure the strength of the sunshine. Does it seem strong and able to grow grass or weak enough to pass for a cup of green tea? Yes, I know about green tea, my close relative thinks it is a necessary health product and encourages me, a strong, healthy man, to drink it. Can’t go the stuff, but I hope she enjoys hers! Back to the strength of the sun, it sure is puny today. Read More »

S Snows Can Bring Good Memories; Some Not So Good

GRAVETTE — The snow this winter made me remember the heavy snows in Nebraska. Though I was only eight when we came to Arkansas, I can still recall the deep snows and blizzards that blew the frozen white stuff even deeper. Read More »

S OPINION? Everybody Has One!!

GRAVETTE — I went back and counted the cows again. Came up one long twice. They were milling around so much that I figured I was counting one twice but I could be feeding more than I thought. I made a trip to the barn for a sack of feed to scatter in a long line so I could really see them all and there she was, the extra bovine. Read More »

S OPINION? Everybody Has One!!

GRAVETTE — My poor old hide is just yearning for some solar heat. I need a good hot day and fence to build. That would probably warm me up considerably. For one of the few times in my life I feel sorry for the Yankees up there in the northeast. They have been dealt a bad hand of weather for several weeks. Read More »
